The conference Non-Freedom, Despotism and Totalitarianism in Culture and Cultural History

2 Oct 2020

Dear Colleagues,
I regret to inform you that the current pandemic situation and the measures taken because of it are forcing us to hold the conference Non-Freedom, Despotism and Totalitarianism in Culture and Cultural History, which was to take place in Brno on 14 th - 16 th October 2020, postponed. The new date is scheduled for October 2021. However, I would also like to inform you that the collection of your abstracts will be printed within two weeks and I believe that, with your consent, we will be able to post its PDF version on the website of the main convener of the event - the Czech Society for Slavic, Balkan and Byzantine Studies (http://slavistika.slu.cas.cz/) in mid-October 2020 (the registered participants of the conference will receive a hard copy). At the same time, I would like us to be able to set up a repository for prepared written papers or presentations (please state whether you would be interested).
Simultaneously, we will start working on compiling a printed version of a collective monograph titled Non-Freedom, Despotism and Totalitarianism in Culture and Cultural History. Ideally, we would like to publish the book (perhaps in several volumes) before the scheduled meeting in October 2021. To achieve this, your contributions would be needed by the end of February 2021. The expected extent of the articles is about 20 standard pages + abstract, summary and keywords, but individual exceptions will be possible after a mutual agreement. Further instructions concerning formal requirements will be sent to you in the coming days, should we agree upon the pertinence of preparing a collective monograph within such timeframe. So far, I assume that the formal requirements usual for the Slavonic Review (http://www.hiu.cas.cz/cs/nakladatelstvi/periodika/slovansky-prehled.ep/) will be used. Please also indicate whether you would be interested in publishing the text in the intended collective monograph and, if so, whether you would be able to produce your respective article before the above-mentioned deadline.
Should you have any questions or suggestions, please contact me via this e-mail, or via e-mail vlcek@brno.avcr.cz.
Thank you for your cooperation and best wishes to you all.
Sincerely,
Radomír Vlček
